Club Philosophy
As a Club, our philosophy is to assist each swimmer in maximizing whatever potential he or she may have. The rewards a swimmer enjoy will vary, depending on natural talent, capacity for work, attitude and coachability. However, we value each of our swimmers for the special talents they bring to the club, not for their swimming ability alone.
WEST is committed to supporting swimmers at every level, from the most basic learning-the-stroke phases right up to national competition. This is made possible not only by our experienced coaches, but also because of the support we get from Westmont School District 20, a strong parent organization, and the encouragement each swimmer receives from fellow swimmers.
Although we stress swimming development, WEST is about more than just going fast. Through our program, swimmers are also encouraged to develop those personal qualities -- discipline, self-confidence, cooperation and the ability to identify goals and work toward them -- that will help them achieve success in all aspects of life. The relationships with swimmers from other clubs and the experience of how to win and lose will help them develop good sportsmanship.
We also enjoy taking time out for fun as WEST swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in recreational activities with the club. Special friendships that endure through the years have begun at WEST as swimmers learn to encourage each other and to compete in a healthy way.
